So for my Life Skill I choose to get certified in Adobe InDesign CS6.
Adobe is a professional publishing program that ranges from books to brochures, newsletters, magazines, and even iPad apps. It's main features center around stylizing and formatting text.
Every other day I would attend Ms. Spark's 7th period class to study for a couple hours at a time to better prepare myself for getting certified. I worked on several projects and even created a mini class yearbook for Ms. DiLorenzo's 3rd grade class.
In reflection I choose to get certified because I want to go into a Public Relations or Marketing career field. And I would like to use these skills I have developed to help spread the word of God across the globe. To let the world know of the Gospel. But of course, I struggled. At time I'd get really bored and distracted with wanting to check my emails or look up my grades rather than memorizing buttons on some computer program. I also struggled with time management, being disciplined and staying motivated. I had to constantly remind myself WHY I choose to do this in the first place. However, I was able to overcome my problems by staying in constant communication with Ms. Sparks, my InDesign teacher, my Walk About mentor Mr. Fix and even fellow students to get feedback. So in turn, their feedback really motivated me to learn this program for a purpose; thus helping me to stay focused and determined. I was able to manage my time, then, by prioritizing what was most important and sticking to the deadlines I created for myself.
Now I feel so accomplished because I can officially say I am an Adobe Certified Associate in InDesign CS6!
My advice to anyone who decides to become certified in any Adobe Program is this:
